Crest Hill is
a city in Will County, Illinois, United States. The
population was 13,329 at the 2000 census.
In 2005, Mayor Nick Churnovic
had been elected mayor. During the campaign, he promised
to give a Crest Hill a slogan. So, Crest Hill Schools
wrote slogans and Mayor Churnovic narrowed it down to
the top 5. On December 19, 2005, the Crest Hill city
council counted the votes and the determined winner
was Taylor Smith, a 7th grader from Chaney-Monge School,
with the phrase "The City of New Beginnings".
The seal that accompanies the new phrase features the
sun, two hills, and an oak tree.
As of the census[2] of 2000,
there were 13,329 people, 4,478 households, and 2,758
families residing in the city. The population density
was 1,861.2 people per square mile (718.8/km²).
There were 4,808 housing units at an average density
of 671.4/sq mi (259.3/km²). The racial makeup of
the city was 69.4% (White Non-Hispanic) 19.6% (African
American), 8.8% (Hispanic), 3.2% (Other), 1.4% (Two
or more races), .5% (American Indian).
